Turbo the Tortoise on PlayStation 4

2015 seen EatAudio developing a side project focusing on re-developing the 8-bit classic “Turbo the Tortoise” and bringing the 2D platform game into this century. The game is being launched on PlayStation 4 towards the end of 2020. Over the last few years the game has been on the back burner for a while as other Eat Audio projects have taken precedence. Such is life! But it has been an exciting and fun technical challenge to undertake!

At the moment the bulk of the game engine is complete, graphics are in a mocked up stage, and music and sound are all in place! Level design is the next major challenge as that’s only 50% complete. As a fast paced platformer the levels are huge in design, and with 30 of them altogether in the pipeline there’s a lot of work going on quietly in the background to bring everything to life! With a developers licence from Sony Computer Entertainment secured, progress is looking good!

All the coding is done on a Windows 10 computer, using the GML coding language. The EatAudio electronic music project ‘Atomic Salt Shaker’ is providing the soundtrack to the game, and the graphics have been mocked up in Adobe Photoshop and ‘Spriter’ for a lot of the character animations. There is still a lot of work to be done to bring this game to completion, especially as it’s intended to have the graphics entirely revamped by a professional gaming artist.

If you like what you see, get in touch. Sooner or later it’s going to require significant bug testing so if you fancy being part of the process then let us know!
